Botox®

Botox® is a neurotoxin protein that prevents the release of neurotransmitter acetylcholine from axon ending at the neuromuscular junction leading to muscle paralysis (relaxation).

Botox & Dysport

Neuromodulators available at the clinic include Botox and Dysport. They work by blocking the release and the effects of acetylcholine (Ach), which in return prevent muscle contraction. This helps soften the appearance of wrinkles and also helps soften the contraction of muscles to help with other disorders such as TJM pain from excessive clenching or teeth grinding and also to help relieve migraines. Neuromodulators can also help with hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) from palm of hands and underarms (armpits).

How long does the effect last?
When injected with the recommended dose, the effects last approximately 3 months. For patients who exercise daily, use saunas, jacuzzies or steam rooms regularly, the effects may last a less than 3 months.
For patients who receive the treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), the effects can last up to 6 months.
Patients who receive neurotoxins for migraine relief have to get treatments every 3 months.
How many units of Botox or Dysport will I need?
The number of units is decided upon assessment. Because every treatment is tailored to your needs, the number of units used per area is not a standard number for every patient. Some patients have stronger muscles than others and some patients will want a more subtle results while others may want no movement. Depending on the goal, Franco will help calculate the number of units that will be needed.

Anti-Aging & Aesthetics

Botox® can last approximately three months. For those who exercise frequently or expose themselves to high temperatures, the Botox® can last less than three months. Botox® is not recommended to be injected less than every three months unless a touch up two weeks after initial injections are needed. Botox® can take up to two weeks for it to go into effect 100%. If the patient decides to do less Botox® units than what is recommended by the professional, the duration of effect may be less than three months.
Botox® dosing is patient dependent. Depending on the severity, wrinkles/lines and strength of the muscle being treated, the nurse injector will decide the amount of Botox® units needed.
